Astros right-hander David Paulino lost after yielding four runs on four hits and two walks with no strikeouts in three innings on Thursday against the Indians.

Astros summon Paulino for Thursday debut

David Paulino, a 6-foot-7 right-handed pitcher who went a combined 5-4 with a 2.00 ERA and 106 strikeouts in 90 innings this year at the Rookie, Double-A and Triple-A levels, was called up by the Astros on Tuesday and will start Thursday's series finale against the Indians.

Is the younger brother of former Tigers prospect, RHP Brenny Paulino, who pitched in the minor leagues from 2010-14... Was signed by Detroit Tigers as a nondrafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic on Sept. 28, 2010...was signed by Tigers scouts Carlos Santana, Ramon Perez and Miguel Garcia... Was added to the Astros 40-man roster on Nov. 20, 2015...is signed to a one-year contract that runs through 2017.

Made his Major League debut with Houston, making one start while appearing in three total games... threw a career-high 97.0 combined innings between the Major and minor leagues...at 22 years, 215 days old, was the third-youngest AL pitcher to make a start behind Minnesota's RHP Jose Berrios (21 years, 336 days) and New York's RHP Luis Severino (22 years, 48 days)...was scoreless in both of his relief appearances (4.0IP), which included a 3.0-inning performance where he allowed just one baserunner on Sept. 30 at LAA...began the season at Double A Corpus Christi...was promoted to Triple A on Aug. 19...recalled to Houston on Sept. 6 for his first career stint in the Majors...made his Major League debut on Sept. 8 at CLE, allowing four runs in 3.0 innings in the start...went 5-4 with a 2.00 ERA (20ER/90IP), 19 walks and 106 strikeouts in 20 minor league outings (15 starts)...pitched in 14 games at Double A, three games at Triple A and three games in the Rookie Level Gulf Coast League on a minor league rehab assignment...was a Double A Texas League Midseason AllStar, as he put up a 5-2 record and a 1.83 ERA (13ER/64IP) with 72 strikeouts at the level.

Put together his busiest season as a professional, appearing in 13 games (12 starts) with Class A Short Season Tri-City, Class A Quad Cities and Class A Advanced Lancaster...pitched in 67.1 innings, eclipsing his previous high of 20.0 innings in 2013...owned a 2.81 ERA (21ER/67.1IP) with a 9.6 strikeouts per 9.0 innings ratio, fanning 72 batters...started two games to begin the season for short-season Tri-City and did not allow a run over 9.1 innings, before being promoted to Class A Quad Cities...was 3-2 with a 1.57 ERA in five starts with the River Bandits...struck out 32 in 28.2 innings...held Midwest League hitters to a .202 average while posting a 0.98 WHIP...was named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 13, while with Quad Cities...he went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA (0ER/6IP), eight strikeouts and no walks in his scoreless appearance on July 7 vs. Cedar Rapids...it marked a stretch of four straight games with at least six strikeouts, fanning 28 in 24.2 innings...was promoted to Lancaster on July 26 from Quad Cities...in his final two regular season outings (Aug. 7 vs. Rancho Cucamonga; Sept. 4 vs. High Desert), tied a career high with 7.0 innings in both starts...over the course of the two games, fanned 17 batters while walking only one...made his first postseason appearance on Sept. 10 at High Desert in Game 2 of the California League South Division Mini-Series...allowed three runs in 4.1 innings of work.

2014

2013

Made four appearances with the GCL Tigers...went 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA (6ER/20IP) and 22 punchouts...made only four appearances (all starts) before injuring his elbow and being placed on the disabled list July 16, where he remained through the end of the season...was traded to the Astros following the season on Sept. 13, as the PTBNL in the Jose Veras trade.

2012

Made three appearances with the GCL Tigers...allowed only one earned run in his 4.0 innings (3G/1GS)...began the season on the 7-day disabled list, and was transferred to the 60-day DL on June 29...was activated on Aug. 17, making all three of his appearances to close out the season.

2011

Made his debut as a professional with the DSL Tigers...did not allow an earned run over 15.0 innings of work, pitching in eight games and starting seven...held batters to a .160 batting average, giving up only eight hits in 50 at-bats.
