Last name is pronounced 'goo-DWON'...Signed by the Astros as a 17-year-old nondrafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic on Sept. 22, 2009...signed by Astros scouts Felix Francisco and Rafael Belen...Was added to the Astros 40-man roster on Nov. 5, 2016...after spending seven years (2010-16) in the Astros system, would have become eligible to become a minor league free agent if he wasn't added to the 40-man roster this offseason...Was invited to Major League Spring Training for the first time in his career this season.

2016

Split his season between Double A Corpus Christi (9g) and Triple A Fresno (34g), combining to go 3-3 with two saves, a 4.18 ERA (26ER/56IP) and 63 strikeouts in 43 appearances...made one appearance for the Astros at Spring Training, earning a save in 1.0 scoreless inning as a minor league call-up...broke camp with Corpus Christi and spent over a month with the Hooks before a promotion to Triple A on May 12...made nine appearances for the Hooks, going 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA (1ER/13IP) with 19 strikeouts...after his promotion, posted a 2-3 record and a 5.23 ERA (25ER/43IP) in 34 games for the Grizzlies...held lefties to a .213 opponent batting average while at Triple A...pitched for the Gigantes del Cibao in the Dominican Winter League and made 14 appearances with eight strikeouts in 8.0 innings.
