Astros take on in-state rival Texas Rangers in upcoming homestand

HOUSTON, TX - The Astros will host the in-state rival Texas Rangers for a three-game set this weekend, August 8-10. This marks the first time the two teams have met since the Astros swept the Rangers in Arlington this past July. The two teams will meet again for four games in Houston at the end of this month from August 28-31. The Astros will also host the Minnesota Twins for a three-game set, August 11-13.

Friday, August 8 - 7:10 p.m. vs. Texas

Big and Bright Friday Night returns with a postgame Friday Night Fireworks show, presented by Marathon Oil Corporation, following the conclusion of the game vs. the Texas Rangers. This week's show features a country themed fireworks display.

In honor of the Lone Star rivalry, 10,000 fans will take home an Astros cowboy boot mug, courtesy of Xfinity.

The "Astros Fans Win with Slotomania Sweepstakes" also begins on Friday and will continue through the weekend (also, August 26-31). Astros fans will have the opportunity to win a grand prize of $5,000 at each of those nine games! For more information on how to win, please visit

TexanPlus will recognize the first of five finalists in their Champions program, which was designed to recognize everyday champions who make a difference in the lives of older Americans in Southeast Texas, in a pregame ceremony before Friday's game. The finalist who collects the most votes will be named the TexanPlus Grand Champion and will throw out the first pitch at an Astros game in September as well as present a $25,000 donation to the charity of his or her choosing. The remaining finalists will each be recognized in pregame ceremonies throughout the homestand.

Every Friday from 4:30-6:00 p.m. is St. Arnold Happy Hour, featuring $5, 12-ounce beers at the St. Arnold's Bar in left field.

Also on Fridays, the Budweiser Patio serves Budweiser Day Fresh Draught, kegged and delivered the same day.

Saturday, August 9 - 6:10 p.m. vs. Texas

The Texas-inspired giveaways continue on Saturday with 10,000 fans receiving an Astros cowboy hat, also courtesy of Xfinity.

Prior to Saturday's contest with the Rangers, Astros two-time All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve and rookie sensation George Springer will be signing at a free autograph session at Gulfgate RAM located at 7250 Gulf Freeway, Houston, TX 77017 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (players subject to change).

2014 All-Star Final Vote nominee Dallas Keuchel will also be making an appearance at the Academy Sports + Outdoors store located at 23155 1-10 West at Grand Parkway, Katy, TX 77449. The free autograph session will take place from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Sunday, August 10 - 1:10 p.m. vs. Texas

Richard Linklater, director of the popular films School of Rock and Dazed and Confused, will throw out the first pitch on Sunday before the Astros vs. Rangers 1:10 p.m. contest. Linklater's latest film, Boyhood, documents the life of a young boy over the course of 12 years and features highlights of Astros players Roger Clemens and Jason Lane, shot at Minute Maid Park. The movie is in select theaters now.

Tuesday, August 12 - 7:10 p.m. vs. Minnesota

Prior to Tuesday's game vs. the Minnesota Twins, Secretary of the US Navy Ray Mabus will throw out the first pitch and re-enlist 20 members of the US Navy and five members of the U.S. Marine Corps in a pregame ceremony.

Luken Baker, winner of the 2014 MLB Junior Home Run Derby, will also be recognized in a pregame ceremony. Luken is a Conroe, TX native and recent graduate of Oak Ridge High School.
