Astros select Foltynewicz to Major League Roster

The Houston Astros have selected right-handed pitcher Mike Foltynewicz to the Major League roster today (#48). He will join the club from Triple A Oklahoma City. This marks the Major League debut for Foltynewicz, who will pitch out of the bullpen. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow.

Foltynewicz, 22, has pitched the entire season at Triple A OKC, going 7-7 in 21 games (18 starts). He's posted 102 strikeouts in his 102.2 innings pitched, which includes three double-digit strikeout games this season. According to MLB.com, Foltynewicz ranks as the Astros No. 4 prospect and the No. 65 prospect in all of baseball. He was originally a first-round selection (19th overall) by Houston in the June 2010 draft.

Along with outfielder Jake Marisnick, who was acquired yesterday from the Miami Marlins, the two will be the 11th and 12th rookies to play for the Astros this season. Foltynewicz is the seventh player to make their MLB debut with Houston in 2014 and the third pitcher, joining right-handed pitcher Jake Buchanan and left-handed pitcher Rudy Owens.

With the addition of Foltynewicz, the Astros 40-man roster is now full.
