HOUSTON -- Astros manager Bo Porter lost a challenge in the second inning on Monday against the A's when he argued a ball hit down the first-base line by Marc Krauss should have been called fair.

With his offense struggling to get runners on base, Porter rolled the dice early in the game. The ball had been called foul by first-base umpire Doug Eddings, and the call was confirmed following a swift replay review.

The Astros have now been successful in 12 of their 21 challenges.

No manager may challenge more than two plays in a game. But after the beginning of the seventh inning, the crew chief may choose to invoke instant replay on any reviewable call.
