Astros Legends Weekend events and giveaways to highlight upcoming homestand

The Astros are hosting many exciting events during the upcoming homestand, most notably of which is the Astros Legends Weekend from August 1-3. The Astros are honoring the many former players and alumni who played integral roles in the franchise's storied history as the Astros host the Toronto Blue Jays for a four-game series. Prior to Legends Weekend, the Astros will host the Miami Marlins for three games of interleague play from July 25-27, followed by a three-game set with the reigning AL West Champion Oakland Athletics from July 28-30. 

Friday, July 25 - 7:10 p.m. vs. Miami 

Big and Bright Friday Night returns with a postgame fireworks show, presented by Marathon Oil Corporation, following Friday night's game vs. the Miami Marlins. This week's show features a "TV Land" themed fireworks display. 

Additionally, 10,000 Astros fans will take home an Astros beach towel, presented by Coca-Cola. 

New to this year's All-Star Game was the "Hot Dog Derby," where chefs representing baseball venues from across the country presented their best hot dogs in an all-out competition. This year, Houston and Minute Maid Park's own Chef Bryan Caswell won for his "Freddy Fender" by unanimous decision! In honor of the victory, the Freddy Fender will be featured at Street Eats (section 126) and at its normal home of The Caz (Club Level section 232) during the entire upcoming homestand.

 Every Friday from 4:30-6:00 p.m. is St. Arnold Happy Hour, featuring $5, 12-ounce beers at the St. Arnold's Bar in left field.

 Also on Fridays, the Budweiser Patio serves Budweiser Day Fresh Draught, kegged and delivered the same day.

 Friday night will also be Hockey Night at Minute Maid Park. Back-to-back Olympic Gold Medal USA Sled Hockey Team Captain Andy Yohe and 2014-15 USA Sled Hockey National Team member Kyle Huckaby will be signing autographs before the game in Union Station Lobby where young fans will have the opportunity to give Sled Hockey a try (on wheels)! 

Saturday, July 26 - 6:10 p.m. vs. Miami 

Prior to the contest with the Marlins, Astros two-time All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve will be signing autographs at the Academy Sports + Outdoors store located at 9470 FM 1960 Bypass, Humble, TX 77338 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. 

Ten thousand Astros fans will be well-equipped to take on the Marlins from the Sunshine State with the Astros sunglasses giveaway, courtesy of Nolan Ryan Beef. 

And following the game, pop and R&B sensation Jason Derulo will hit the stage at Minute Maid Park for a special postgame concert open to all ticketed fans. 

Tuesday, July 29 - 7:10 p.m. vs. Oakland 

Prior to Tuesday's 7:10 p.m. contest vs. the Oakland A's, HomeAid Houston, a 501(c)(3) charity in its eighth year of partnership with the Houston Astros, will present the key to the winner of their 2014 Project Playhouse on the field in a special pregame ceremony. The castle playhouse was built by Coventry Houses/Plantation Homes and was located at Minute Maid Park in June and July, as fans had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win the playhouse. Over $85,000 was raised to build transitional housing for Houston's homeless men, women, and children.

 Thursday, July 31 - 7:10 p.m. vs. Toronto

 Prior to Thursday's series opener vs. the Blue Jays, former Astros pitching legend and current Advisor to the President Larry Dierker will present 2014 All-Star Jose Altuve with the MLBPAA's Heart and Hustle Award. This award honors active players who demonstrate a passion for the game of baseball and best embody the values, spirit and tradition of the game. The Heart and Hustle Award is also the only award in MLB that is voted on by former players. 

Every Thursday home game this season is a Dollar Hot Dog Thursday, where fans can purchase an unlimited number of Nolan Ryan Beef hot dogs at $1 each while supplies last (limit of four per person per concession visit). 


Friday, August 1- 7:10 p.m. vs. Toronto 

On Friday, August 1, the Astros will kick off their annual Astros Legends Weekend celebration, where former Astros players and alumni from many different eras will be on hand to celebrate the rich history of the Astros organization. 

The weekend will be chock-full of giveaways, starting with Friday's Lance Berkman bobblehead giveaway for 10,000 fans, presented by Houston Methodist. 

A "classic Disney" themed Big and Bright Friday Night fireworks display, presented by Marathon Oil Corporation, will follow the conclusion of Friday's 7:10 p.m. contest. 

Prior to Friday's first pitch, nine Houston Area Folds of Honor Foundation scholarship recipients will be honored on the field as a part of Budweiser and Silver Eagle Distributor's ongoing efforts to raise awareness for this worthy cause. The Folds of Honor Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports the families of America's fallen and disabled heroes that have defended our country's freedom.

Saturday, August 2- 6:10 p.m. vs. Toronto

 The Astros Legends weekend celebration continues on Saturday with a Legends autograph session, taking place on the Main Concourse behind the Insperity Club prior to the 6:10 p.m. contest. 

Saturday's Legends-themed giveaway is an Andy Pettitte Jersey for 10,000 fans, presented by Waste Management. 

Prior to the contest with the Blue Jays, Houston native and Astros starting pitcher Jarred Cosart will be signing autographs at the Academy Sports + Outdoors store in Pearland located at 2804 Business Center Dr., Pearland, TX 77584 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. 

The Houston Astros are hosting families from the Sunshine Kids for their second meet and greet of the season with Astros players and coaches. The meet and greet will be held in the press conference room following Astros batting practice. 

Additionally, the Astros will be honoring the two national finalists in Major League Baseball's Pitch, Hit & Run Program, presented by Scotts. Gabriella Emeana of Copperas Cove, Texas and Casey Harp of Pipe Creek, Texas placed in the top three of their age group nationally and were invited to participate in the national competition held at Target Field prior to the 2014 Home Run Derby. Gabriella was crowned the national champion of her age group.
