ANAHEIM -- Umpires ruled that Astros catcher Carlos Corporan did not violate Rule 7.13 while tagging third baseman David Freese out at home plate to end the third inning Friday night, confirming their initial call after Angels manager Mike Scioscia asked that they check replay.

With two outs and Freese at second after an RBI double, rookie C.J. Cron lined a single to left field and Freese was waived around by third-base coach Gary DiSarcina. But L.J. Hoes fired a strong throw home to nail Freese, keeping the Angels' lead at 3-1 and handing them their Major League-leading 40th out on the bases this season.

Since umpires were reviewing Rule 7.13 -- a new regulation made in effort to eliminate home-plate collisions -- Scioscia didn't lose a challenge despite not getting the call overturned.

While going to replay under a crew chief review, umpires can also judge whether a runner was safe or out, but the original out call was confirmed.
