HOUSTON -- Rays manager Joe Maddon unsuccessfully challenged a play in the third inning of Saturday's game against the Astros, squandering his ability to challenge for the remainder of the game.

With the Rays leading, 1-0, Maddon contested that Kevin Kiermaier, who had doubled, was safe as he tried to steal third with one out in the inning. Kiermaier had initially been called out on the play, and after two minutes and seven seconds of review, the play was ruled to stand as called.

Evan Longoria ended the inning on the following at-bat with a groundout. Maddon has challenged seven calls so far this year, getting just one overturned.

There was also a crew chief review in the bottom of the third inning as the umpires reviewed to see if Astros third baseman Matt Dominguez's bases-loaded double was actually a home run. The review deemed that the ball was still in play, and Houston took a 5-1 lead in the five-run frame.
