Tropeano tosses eight scoreless frames

Right-hander Nick Tropeano, the Astros' No. 16 prospect, threw eight shutout innings Monday as Triple-A Oklahoma City defeated Memphis, 8-1.

Tropeano struck out five batters and scattered five hits and two walks. He needed 98 pitches to match the longest outing of his career.

With the victory, Tropeano improved to 3-4 and lowered his ERA to 2.28, the fourth best mark in the Pacific Coast League. He has struck out 52 batters and walked 17 in 59 1/3 innings this season.

After scoring a combined eight runs in Tropeano's last five starts, Oklahoma City provided him with plenty of run support Monday. Shortstop Gregorio Petit led the way with three hits and three RBIs and right fielder Domingo Santana, the Astros' No. 7 prospect and No. 97 overall, went 1-for-2 with two runs and three walks.
