The Houston Astros have recalled RHP Josh Fields from Triple A Oklahoma City and have placed RHP Anthony Bass on the 15-day Disabled List with a right intercostal strain. Bass' DL stint will be backdated to May 11. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow.
Fields, 28, made 14 appearances and collected two saves for the Astros after making the Opening Day roster this season. He was optioned to Triple A OKC on May 6 and has made three hitless and scoreless appearances for the RedHawks, with one save and four strikeouts in 3.0 innings pitched. Fields earned the save yesterday for OKC, striking out the side, in a 1-0 win over Colorado Springs. He will be in uniform for tonight's game.
Bass, 26, is 1-0 with two saves and a 4.50 ERA (9ER/18IP) in 15 games for Houston this season. He leads the club with four holds and has allowed just a .239 (17x71) opponent's batting average in 2014. He has 90 career Major League appearances with San Diego (2011-13) and Houston (2014). Bass was acquired via trade from the Padres this offseason on Dec. 11, 2013.
The Astros 40-man roster remains at 39.
