On Friday, May 16, Big & Bright Friday Nights return with a postgame fireworks show, presented by Marathon Oil Corporation, following the game vs. the Chicago White Sox. The music for this upcoming fireworks show will have a "Broadway" theme.
Prior to the fireworks show, the Long Haul Bombers will return to Minute Maid Park to take the field for an impressive Home Run Derby as part of their Stadium Power Tour. The team will also be available for autographs on the main concourse at Section 119 from 6-6:30pm. Additionally, Every Friday from 4:30-6:00pm is St. Arnold Happy Hour, featuring $5, 12-ounce beers at the St. Arnold's Bar in left field. Live music will take place throughout the event beginning this week with a performance from Houston-based band "The Guppies."
FIRST TIME GIVEAWAY
On Saturday, May 17, for the first time ever, 10,000 fans will receive an Astros Gnome presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors when arriving at the ballpark prior to the 3:10 p.m. game vs. the White Sox.
7th ANNUAL BAYOU BASH
Fans can enjoy a Cajun celebration at the Astros 7th Annual Bayou Bash on Saturday, May 17. The event, presented by Budweiser, will take place from 12:00-3:00 p.m. on the Plaza on Crawford St., and will feature live music, cold beer and "Tons of Crawfish." Additionally, a trucker hat giveaway will be available to the first 1,000 fans that enter the Bayou Bash. That afternoon's Astros-White Sox game is scheduled to start at 3:10 p.m.
AT BAT IN THE COMMUNITY
HONORARY BAT GIRL
On Friday, May 16, the Astros will recognize breast cancer survivor Tammy Roberts, who was one of 31 winners selected across the league as part of Major League Baseball's Honorary Bat Girl contest. Roberts, who courageously battled cancer for close to two years, will be honored during the pregame ceremonies.
STACEY & BO PORTER S.E.L.F. FOUNDATION EVENT
On Saturday, May 17, Astros manager Bo Porter and his wife, Stacey, will host close to 100 kids as part of their their annual "Day At The Ballpark" event at Minute Maid Park. The event is part of the community outreach efforts that the Porters do as part of their S.E.L.F. Foundation. Bo and Astros players will speak to the kids in the press conference room at noon. The S.E.L.F. Foundation provides support to youth through Sports, Education, Life-Skills and Faith.
ARMED FORCES DAY - Saturday, May 17
In honor of Armed Forces Day, 40 active duty military personnel and veterans will line the base paths with members of the Astros and White Sox for the National Anthem prior to the start of the game.
EVERY MOMENT COUNTS
Members of USO Houston (United Service Organizations, Inc.) will be at the Bayou Bash out on Crawford St. on Saturday, May 17 to collect signatures on an American flag as part of the national Every Moment Counts campaign to break the Guinness World Record. Fans can also show their support for the troops and their families by submitting a virtual signature at www.usomoments.org
On Saturday, May 17, the Astros will proudly recognize corporate partner Schlumberger for their participation in the Astros Community Leaders program. Schlumberger has commited to contributing $1.5 million dollars over the next five years to the Community Leaders program for the renovation and construction of youth baseball and softball fields in the Greater Houston area.
ANNUAL BASEBALL TOMORROW FUND EQUIPMENT DRIVE
The Astros are teaming up with the Baseball Tomorrow Fund once again to host their annual Equipment Drive at Minute Maid Park on Sunday, May 18. Fans are invited to donate new and used baseball or softball equipment at the Right Field, Clock Tower, South Home Plate and Union Station Atrium entrances. Equipment collected will be donated to children in the Houston community.
