HOUSTON -- Astros third baseman Geoff Blum is listed as day-to-day after suffering a left shin bruise and mild ankle sprain in the third inning of the Astros' 2-1 win over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night.
Blum, who was taken to a hospital for X-rays, injured his leg while trying to break up a double play at second base. He stayed in the game and played two more innings on defense before being removed for a pinch-hitter.
Blum entered the game hitting .259 with nine homers and 45 RBIs and singled sharply to right field in his first at-bat in the third inning before being forced out at second base.
The injury opened the door for rookie Chris Johnson, who pinch-hit for Blum in the fifth inning in his Major League debut. Johnson wound up going 0-2 after remaining in the game at third.
