Astros promote three on baseball operations staff

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros have promoted three employees on their baseball operations staff, effective in 2014. Kevin Goldstein has been named Director of Professional Scouting, Stephanie Wilka has been named Specialist of International Operations and Associate Counsel and Pete Putila has been named Coordinator of Baseball Operations. The announcement was made by General Manager Jeff Luhnow.

Goldstein originally joined the Astros in August of 2012 as a pro scouting coordinator. Prior to joining the organization, Goldstein developed a solid reputation as a national writer for Baseball Prospectus and ESPN specializing in scouting and player development. He currently oversees all Astros pro scouting efforts, which include comprehensive scouting of both Major League and minor league players across the 30 MLB clubs as well as independent leagues and foreign professional leagues.

Wilka, formerly the club's coordinator of baseball operations, will continue to work closely with the club's General Counsel, Giles Kibbe, on legal issues relating to both baseball operations and business units. She also will continue to assist in the day-to-day activities of the Astros international operations. Wilka joined the Astros in January of 2012 after working in various capacities for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox organizations. She has a degree from the Pepperdine University School of Law and passed the California Bar Exam in July of 2011. Wilka also earned a Bachelor's degree in psychology from Harvard University in 2005.

Putila, a 2011 graduate of West Virginia University, joined the Astros as an intern for the baseball operations staff in January of 2011 before being hired as baseball operations assistant in September of 2011. In his role, Putila will continue to provide support to the club's Major League and minor league staffs, will help with the advance scouting process and will be heavily involved in monitoring MLB's new in-game video replay system.
