Paulino allowed four runs over 2 1/3 innings of relief on Saturday. It was his first action on the mound in a week. Manager Cecil Cooper said he would like to see the right-hander work on controlling his offspeed pitches.
"I'm going to go down and do my work, as usual," Paulino said. "They told me I have to work more, but I don't understand. I have all my pitches right. They have their decisions and they have their side of it."
The Astros have not made a corresponding roster move yet, but said they are most likely going to recall left-hander Wesley Wright on Thursday before their first game of the second half against the Dodgers.
Wright is 2-1 with a 5.30 ERA in 18 2/3 innings with the Astros this season.
Paulino was 2-5 with 7.04 ERA in 14 appearances, including 10 starts for Houston. He was taken out of the Astros starting rotation after giving up eight runs on nine hits in two innings against the Giants on July 3.
"I just want to do what's best for the team," Paulino said. "Truly, if there's an opportunity to come back, I want to come back when they want. I feel good and healthy. But they think I'm missing some pitches, so I have to go down and do my job."
