Trio of Astros fans up for All-Star honor

Three finalists per Major League club were chosen out of thousands of nominations from across the United States and Canada of "everyday All-Stars," people who have gone above and beyond to serve their community.

Fans are invited to vote in the All-Stars Among Us campaign, a presentation of People Magazine and Major League Baseball, for the 30 winners from June 8-24. One winner will be chosen as a representative of every club, and all 30 will be honored at Busch Stadium in St. Louis for the July 14 All-Star Game. One club representative also will be featured in People Magazine.

Here are the finalists for Houston:

• John Sage of Houston started Bridges to Life after his sister was murdered, and the goal of the organization is to reduce crime by lowering the recidivism rate of released inmates in Texas. The organization's success derives from bringing together victims and inmates to participate in a restorative justice process. More than 300 volunteers participate in Bridges to Life programs in 22 prisons.

• Gary J. Lynn of Houston has cerebral palsy and is wheelchair-bound, but refuses to be defined by his disability. Today he is a straight-A student at Spring High School in Houston and has his own foundation, which has raised and donated $12,000 for CP research.

• David L. Moore of Houston decided to "give Christmas away" seven years ago, and as a result, 11 underprivileged children received bicycles. Through Moore's vision, Elves & More was born. This year, his organization plans to give away its 100,000th bicycle.

The 80th Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX Sports, in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and Sportsnet HD and televised around the world by Major League Baseball International, with pregame ceremonies beginning at 7 p.m. CT. ESPN Radio will provide exclusive national radio coverage, while MLB.com will provide extensive online coverage.
