Springer wins Texas League All-Star MVP trophy

Astros prospect George Springer homered twice and drove in three runs in the Texas League All-Star Game on Tuesday night, taking home MVP honors as he makes his way to Triple-A.

Springer, the Astros' No. 3 prospect, hit a solo shot with one out in the sixth, then tacked on two more runs with another blast in the eighth inning, leading the South All-Stars to a 6-0 win.

Springer was Houston's first-round Draft pick in 2011 and had an excellent first half with Double-A Corpus Christi, batting .297/.399/.579 with 19 homers and ultimately earning a promotion to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday.

He was the Texas League's leading run producer over the season's first half, ranking among the league leaders in batting average (sixth), homers (tied for first), RBIs (55, tied for second), stolen bases (23, tied for second), hits (81, tied for fourth), doubles (20, fifth) and runs scored (56, first) at the time of his promotion.

In three Minor League seasons across three levels, Springer has compiled a .296/.385/.539 slash line with 44 home runs, 145 RBIs and 59 stolen bases in 209 games.
