Clemens opts to honor commitment to Longhorns

SEATTLE -- Kacy Clemens won't be following in his father's footsteps -- not to the Astros right now, at least.

The son of seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens, who had a three-year stint with Houston toward the end of his career, announced Sunday he intends to honor his commitment to the University of Texas, rather than sign with the Astros.

The Astros drafted the younger Clemens in the 35th round (1,037th overall) of the First-Year Player Draft after he went 8-0 with a 1.09 ERA in his senior season at Houston's Memorial High School.

His father also attended Texas.

"It was great to hear his name called and always an honor to be selected," the elder Clemens told the Houston Chronicle. "His sights will be set on the 'The University' to get his education and get the 'Horns back to Omaha!"
