KANSAS CITY -- Astros second baseman Jose Altuve was held out of the lineup on Friday because of a slight groin strain.
"He wants to play," manager Bo Porter said before the series opener against the Royals. "But I'm not going to listen to him. I'm going to listen to the experts -- the trainers. They said he could use another day. I'm going to take their advice."
Altuve took pregame batting practice and Porter said the second baseman will be re-evaluated prior to Saturday's game to determine his availability.
"I always lean on the side of caution, especially when you're talking lower extremity," Porter said. "The last thing you want is for something to be mild and then you get into a game and it becomes something that lingers for a long period of time."
