Prior to today's 1:10 p.m. game vs. the Texas Rangers, the Astros celebrated Mother's Day by having four mothers of Astros players throw out ceremonial first pitches to their sons.
As part of Major League Baseball's annual breast cancer research awareness campaign, Astros and Rangers players are using pink bats and wearing pink wristbands. Additionally, specially logo'd baseballs are being used today throughout Major League Baseball.
The Astros' honorary Bat Girl, Judy Pareya, was also featured in a pregame ceremony. Judy Pareya is a retiree, mother of two, grandmother of two and great-grandmother of four. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, and has battled her way through the disease. Thanks to the treatments she received at the Methodist Cancer Center, Judy is a breast cancer survivor. She and her children have become active supporters of breast cancer awareness campaigns, research and assistance for low-income women struggling with breast cancer.
