Houston moves Minors catcher Wallace to Cleveland in exchange

The Astros on Monday added to their organizational pitching depth, acquiring left-hander Eric Berger from the Indians in exchange for catcher Chris Wallace in a Minor League trade.

Berger, who turns 27 next Monday, will report to Triple-A Oklahoma City upon his arrival. The southpaw had a 4.15 ERA in two relief appearances with Double-A Akron this season after spending the majority of last season with Triple-A Columbus, where he went 2-6 with a 5.50 ER in 26 appearances (13 starts).

In six Minor League seasons, Berger carries a 21-25 record to go along with a 3.91 ERA while bouncing back and forth from the bullpen to the starting rotation, making 75 starts compared to 57 relief appearances in his professional career.

Wallace, meanwhile, had appeared in just one game with Oklahoma City this season after hitting a combined .254 with five home runs and 36 RBIs in 78 games between Double-A Corpus Christi and Oklahoma City in 2012.
