RHP Clemens Recalled, RHP Fields Placed On DL

The Houston Astros have placed right-handed pitcher Josh Fields on the 15-day Disabled List due to a right forearm strain, General Manager Jeff Luhnow announced today.

Fields, who has made two scoreless appearances in relief for the Astros this season, will have his DL stint backdated to April 4.

To replace Fields on the roster, the Astros have recalled right-handed pitcher Paul Clemens from Triple A Oklahoma City. Clemens, 25, won his first start of the season for the RedHawks, defeating the Memphis Redbirds on the road on April 5 (5 IP, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO).

This will be the first career Major League stint for Clemens, who posted a 1.69 ERA (1ER/5.1IP) in four Spring Training relief appearances for the Astros in 2013. On March 7 vs. Washington, he struck out the side in the ninth inning to earn the save in a 4-2 Astros victory in Kissimmee, FL.

Clemens, who will wear #56, is scheduled to join the club today in Seattle, where the Astros will begin a three-game series vs. the Mariners tonight at 9:10 p.m. CT.
