White placed on 60-day DL with elbow sprain

HOUSTON -- The Astros made a major roster move following Saturday's victory over the Cubs, placing right-hander Alex White on the 60-day disabled list.

White suffered a sprained elbow in Friday's game. White started the game and was scheduled to pitch two innings, but was pulled by manager Bo Porter after one inning when he complained of right elbow soreness.

White was scheduled to be Houston's long reliever.

The Astros also purchased the contract of veteran reliever Edgar Gonzalez from Triple-A Oklahoma City to replace White.

"He will fill that role as the long man out of the bullpen," Porter said of Gonzalez.

White gave up three hits and three earned runs in the one inning on Friday, striking out one and walking one.

"He was only going to go two innings, anyway," Porter said. "You want to get him out and get him treatment."
