Astros claim Che-Hsuan Lin off waivers from Boston

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros have claimed outfielder Che-Hsuan Lin off waivers from Boston, General Manager Jeff Luhnow announced today. To make room for Lin on the 40-man roster, the club designated right-handed pitcher Enerio Del Rosario for assignment.

Lin, 24, spent most of his 2012 season at Triple A Pawtucket, where he hit .247 (98x396) with 11 doubles, 30 RBI, 15 stolen bases and a .323 on-base percentage. The right-handed hitting outfielder had four stints on the Red Sox active roster this season, hitting .250 (3x12) in nine games, which marks his only Major League experience.

Known for his defensive capabilities, Lin was tabbed three times each by Baseball America as the best defensive outfielder (2009-11) and as having the best outfield arm (2008, 2011-12) in the Red Sox system. He was originally signed by Boston as an international free agent out of Hwa-Lian, Taiwan, in 2007.

Del Rosario, 27, made 19 relief appearances for Houston this season, posting no record and a 9.00 ERA (19ER/19IP). He spent the majority of his campaign at Triple A Oklahoma City, where he went 4-1 with a 5.01 ERA (23ER/41.1IP) in 36 relief appearances. He was originally acquired by Houston from Cincinnati in exchange for cash considerations on Sept. 16, 2010.

With the moves, the Astros 40-man roster remains full at 40.
