HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros announced the final 10 contestants have been selected for the “You Make The Call” Mascot Talent Contest. The finalists were selected by a panel of judges after performing at Minute Maid Park this past Tuesday for the Interaction Round of the competition.
The top 10 contestants are as follows:
- Megan Brown - Houston, TX
- Jason Carson - Cypress, TX
- Greg Cirrone - Dracut, MA
- Trent Coots - Huntsville, TX
- Will Havens - Houston, TX
- Donte Lewis - Houston, TX
- Caleb Pagan - Wallis, TX
- Richard Tapia - Houston, TX
- Zane Thrift - Arlington, TX
- Kinjo Yeh - Fair Oaks, CA
Of the top 10 contestants, local and national mascots are competing, including two performers from the Sugar Land Skeeters and former mascots from the Boston Red Sox, from Baylor University and from the University of Texas.
Fans now have the opportunity to participate in determining who will advance to the Final Round by voting online at astros.com. Video of each contestant will be posted online for the voting period that will close on October 4 at 5:00 p.m. CST. The combined votes of the fans and the previously selected panel of judges will determine the top four contestants that will advance to the Final Round.
“I’m excited to see that the Astros are putting so much effort into creating a new mascot and finding just the right performer to take on the alter ego,” said panelist and Houston Rockets mascot Robert Boudwin. “In narrowing the talent pool down to four, I’ll be looking for two things - first, who is the best physical comedian and second, who has the right combination of energy, enthusiasm, and presence to inspire fans to create a home field advantage.”
The Final Round will be held on October 9. Video of the final four contestants’ performances will be posted online, and fans will once again get the chance to vote from October 11-17. Final Round fan voting results will be combined with the judges’ voting to select the winner.
“Energy, creativity, movement, versatility and instinct are among the key attributes I feel are important for the mascot role,” said panelist Michael Kenny, who was formerly the mascot ‘General Admission’ from the Astrodome.
The panel of judges, which included Boudwin, Kenny, Junction Jack, and Houston Chronicle columnist Ken Hoffman, determined the top 10 contestants.
