Astros might have interest in Big Unit

LAS VEGAS -- The Astros may be interested in free-agent lefty Randy Johnson, whose brief tenure with the Astros occurred 10 years ago and lasted just over two months.

According to a report in the East Valley Tribune, Houston and the Los Angeles Angels have joined the list of teams which have expressed interest in Johnson after meeting with Johnson's agents at the Bellagio.

The Dodgers, Giants, Athletics, Rangers, Brewers and Cubs are also believed to have touched base with Johnson's represenatives before the Winter Meetings began, according to the report.

The article also indicates that one source said Johnson's name had yet to come up in the Astros' internal discussions.

The 45-year-old Johnson was traded to Houston minutes before the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline in 1998 but signed with the Diamondbacks that winter. Johnson was 11-10 with a 3.91 ERA over 30 starts in '08.
