Astros recall infielder Brett Wallace

The Houston Astros have recalled infielder Brett Wallace from Triple A Oklahoma City and have placed infielder Carlos Lee on the 15-day Disabled List with a left hamstring strain. Lee’s DL stint is backdated to June 2. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow.

Wallace, 25, was hitting .265 (49x185) at Oklahoma City with nine doubles, 10 home runs, 37 RBI and a .476 slugging percentage in 50 games. In his last four games with Oklahoma City, he had three home runs and eight RBI. His 10 home runs are tied for tops among RedHawks batters. Wallace has started 22 games at first base and 25 at third base, posting a combined .984 fielding percentage. Last season, he hit .259 (87x336) with 22 doubles, five home runs and 29 RBI in 115 games with Houston. Wallace has played in 166 Major League games from 2010-11.

Lee, 35, has played in 49 of Houston’s 54 games this season. He currently owns a .297 average with four home runs and 23 RBI. Lee has hit .287 (877x3055) with 132 home runs and 527 RBI during his six seasons with the Astros (2007-12) and his 1,039 career RBI rank 8th among active Major Leaguers. Lee owns a career .287 average with 353 home runs in 2,001 Major League games. This is just the second time that Lee has been placed on the Disabled List in his career.

Wallace will wear No. 29 and is in today’s starting lineup.
