Hernandez disappointed in demotion

Astros' Hernandez sent to Triple-A

HOUSTON -- No player is happy with a demotion to the Minor Leagues, and Runelvys Hernandez was no exception.

The soft-spoken right-hander expressed his disappointment while packing up his locker on Monday, after finding out he was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock. The move was necessitated by Roy Oswalt's activation from the disabled list.

"It's not fair," Hernandez said. "They said they were going to give me an opportunity. ... I pitched good the last time."

Hernandez has received two callups in the last month and compiled an 0-3 record with an 8.38 ERA over four starts. In his most recent outing against the Pirates on July 21, he allowed two earned runs over 5 1/3 innings. On July 7 in Pittsburgh, he allowed 10 runs over four innings and was optioned to Round Rock the next day.

Hernandez was bumped from the rotation when the Astros acquired Randy Wolf last week.

"They made a trade, and I'm the only guy that has options," Hernandez said. "I don't want to put my head down. I'm working hard and I'll try to get back. Who knows what will happen?"
