Cooper phones in ejection displeasure

Cooper phones in displeasure

|
HOUSTON -- Astros manager Cecil Cooper is unhappy about his ejection from Sunday's game in Arlington, and this time, he didn't wait to hear from Major League Baseball vice president of rules and on-field operations Bob Watson about the matter. The skipper is disgusted with how the situation was handled by the umpires and called Watson to voice his displeasure.

"I called him [Sunday]," Cooper said. "Instead of filing a formal report, I called him to tell him my side of the story."

Cooper was ejected after arguing with second-base umpire Angel Campos about a caught-stealing ruling on Michael Bourn. After a brief exchange with Campos, which included Cooper remarking, "So you're perfect, you're two-for-two [in blown calls]," Campos ejected Cooper. The skipper felt the ejection was "totally uncalled for."

Replays showed the fielder did not tag Bourn as he slid into the base. It was the second time in three days that Cooper was tossed by the umpires.

"If you [curse], I would expect to go," said Cooper, who never uses foul language. "[Watson] said he'd review all the facts and he'd get back to me."
