Towles expected to start Sunday

CHICAGO -- J.R. Towles said his right knee was "a little sore" on Saturday, but he did not expect the discomfort to prevent him from playing.

Towles was hit on the inside of his knee by a Rich Hill pitch during the second inning of Friday's game against the Cubs, and acknowledged that his leg stiffened up later in the game. He didn't start Saturday's game, but it had nothing to do with the injury. With Roy Oswalt pitching, Brad Ausmus was called on as his designated catcher, for now.

Towles iced the knee Saturday to control the swelling and bruising.

"It's not too bad," he said. "I'll play [Sunday]."
