Fulchino's elbow surgery successful

Astros reliever Jeff Fulchino underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow on Monday.

Fulchino, who missed a month of the season (June 29-July 31) with discomfort in his elbow, had inflamed tissue as well as a bone spur removed by Dr. Tom Mehlhoff.

The 30-year-old right-hander is expected to be ready to throw by Spring Training. Fulchino finished the season with a 5.51 ERA through 47 1/3 innings pitched.

Outfielder Brian Bogusevic (right foot) and left-handed reliever Tim Byrdak (sports hernia) could also be going under the knife. Bogusevic, a September callup, had been experiencing issues with his right metatarsal approaching the end of the season, and will have his foot examined on Tuesday. Byrdak will visit with Dr. Brian Buscani on Oct. 12 to see if surgery is required.
