Moehler moving closer to rehab assignment

MIAMI -- Right-hander Brian Moehler could be headed to a rehab assignment by the time the Astros leave South Florida following their three-game series against the Marlins.

Astros manager Brad Wills said Moehler, who has been on the disabled list since July 8 because of a right groin strain, is scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Saturday at Sun Life Stadium.

"If that goes well, we'll send him on a rehab," Mills said.

Moehler aggravated his groin injury two weeks ago while pitching a simulated game in St. Louis. He decided, however, not to have surgery and see if he can return to the mound this season. Moehler threw about 50 pitches in a simulated three-inning game on Thursday afternoon.

"He says he's been doing pretty well," Mills said of Moehler, who is 1-4 with a 4.92 ERA in 20 games, including eight starts, this season. "He's very happy with the way it's coming, as of right now."
