HOUSTON -- Astros manager Brad Mills slotted first baseman Lance Berkman second in the Astros' batting order Sunday. Berkman, who normally hits third, said the last time he hit second was in 2004. He didn't have a problem with the move, though.
"I mean, why not?" Berkman said. "I'll hit eighth, I don't care."
Mills said he considered hitting shortstop Tommy Manzella second, but ultimately, Berkman's patience at the plate was important at the top of the order. Berkman is 1-for-6 in the series entering Sunday.
"He's still getting his walks," Mills said. "I'm hoping he'll get some fastballs to hit, and hitting second in the order, that might help him."
